John Preat
John Preat has almost 35 years of practical legal experience as a Barrister and Solicitors in Victoria, Queensland and Commonwealth jurisdictions. He has extensive experience in commercial, property financial services, insolvency, criminal and family law matters as well as extensive experience as an advocate and commercial and criminal litigator.
Admitted as a Barrister & Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Australia in 1989, he worked as a Barrister & Solicitor in a number of legal firms in Victoria before practicing in his own firm between 1994 and 2003. During this period he has acted principally in the areas of general commercial and property law, commercial litigation, insolvency, family law and corporate crime.
Between 2003 and 2011 he worked as a lawyer with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission in its Enforcement Directorate, where he was involved in conducting investigations and enforcement proceedings into civil and criminal breaches of the corporations, financial services and criminal law. He spent 18 months at the Financial Ombudsman Service in Melbourne dealing with financial services disputes before returning to general commercial practice and commencing in his current position as Special Counsel with DSA Law. He is an extremely experienced litigator focused on efficiently achieving the best available client outcomes.
